Integrated System:

In a single integrated system, Security Force ® 9 performs the functions of the complete safety system;

  • Enable motion function
  • Initiate motion function
  • Stop motion function
  • Monitoring function of enable, initiate & stop functions

The Security Force ® 9 was originally designed with the machine OEM in mind whereby six modes of operation are field selectable based on the application of the end user;

  • Guard mode
  • Automatic mode
  • Mute mode
  • Mute with Manual Machine Initiation
  • Guard with Manual Machine Initiation
  • Presence Sensing Device Initiation (single break/double break)

The Security Force ® 9 can be the complete safety system, for stand alone machine, or can be easily adapted into a much larger safety system for multiple machines working together (e.g. robot cluster, press line, auto assembly lines, etc.) and without loss of any reaction time ( Note: safety PLC often increase their polling time of I/O when their safety functions increase).

Compliance Ease:

The complete system approach greatly simplifies the installation, plus eases compliance of system certification, because it is already certified as a system.  All that is required is for the system to be verified for being properly applied to the machine. Because there is no software to add and because the system cross checks for connection of external devices, based on mode of operation selected, the misapplication errors are greatly reduced, making 3rd party certification a simple process.

The complete system approach also enables 'diagnostic coverage' i.e. monitoring of all safety functions based on a prior event; for example; Monitoring the elapse time from interruption of the light curtain to;

  • Final Switching Devices going to off state
  • Machine Primary Control Elements going to off state
  • Cessation of motion
  • Monitoring the status of the start switch after power-on.
  • Monitoring the off state of the light curtain's outputs prior to actuation of the start enable device.
  • Monitoring the stopping performance monitors based on the sequence of the mute input.
  • Monitoring the lockout condition prior to start condition.
  • Monitoring the motion initiation devices based on light curtain interrupt conditions.

 Cost Advantages:

Costs associated with external devices (e.g. two hand control, stopping performance monitors, enable switches, mute input, etc.) is greatly reduced because ordinary devices can be used instead of safety devices.  This is due to the 'brains' of the system are centrally located which can make safety decisions about these external devices.  Plus the cost associated with configuration, integration, installation, verification and validation are reduced due to the system approach, whereby wiring connections, debug, etc. are simplified.

The Security Force ® 9 eliminates the need to buy expensive safety PLCs and eliminates the expense of writing 'safety' application software, which can cost upwards of 10 times normal software.  Plus, the verification and validation of this software is a very time consuming and costly process.

The biggest cost savings comes from the simplification of the 3rd party certification.  Because the 'system' is already certified as a system, there is no need to go into lengthy evaluation of;

·        Interfacing devices and their associated software.

·        Interconnection and their susceptibility to faults, i.e. shorts, open, oscillation, etc.

·        Application software and its protection against corruption.

·        System susceptibility to environmental disturbances, i.e. electromagnetic interference, radio frequencies, temperatures, etc.

All that is required for the 3rd party certification
is to verify the system is properly installed and interfaced to the machine.
